Full details of BTS’s “Permission to Dance” challenge, which kicks off this week on YouTube Shorts, are here.
The challenge – a friendly invitation to BTS fans to follow the band’s new single “Permission to Dance” – will officially begin on Friday, July 23 at 9 a.m. EST and continue until 9 a.m. EST on August 14.
Fans around the world are encouraged to get creative and create their own 15-second short film on the YouTube mobile app, inspired (of course) by the smooth movements of BTS’s “Permission to Dance”.
BTS, who previously offered a fun look at the YouTube shorts from their ‘Permission to Dance’ choreography (watch it on computer here or on mobile here before you go on your own), will even highlight a selection of short films from their ARMY in a compilation video. Submissions using #PermissiontoDance and #Shorts will be considered included in the compilation, so be sure to remember these hashtags.
“’Permission to Dance’ is a song that will make everyone’s hearts beat faster and dance again,” BTS said in a statement. “We have also prepared the ‘Permission to Dance Challenge’ with YouTube shorts, so stay tuned for more.”
“Just as ‘Permission to Dance’ sends the message that you don’t have to ask anyone’s permission to dance, we hope that we can bring people from all over the world to dance with us, without any limits or constraints,” adds the director. Big Hit General Shin Young Jae. “We’re so excited to see this challenge come to life on YouTube Shorts and can’t wait to see what you all create.”
The “PTD” video finds the septet making three “International Sign” gestures that translate to “Joy,” “Dance” and “Peace,” which BTS encourages participants to recreate in their own style for the challenge. In a statement, the group said the challenge is an effort to “bring people around the world together to dance with BTS and inspire them to share their unique shorts designs with each other.”
Creating your video should only take 15 seconds using a smartphone and the Shorts camera built into the YouTube mobile app, allowing everyone to create their three “PTD” moves in their own style by following these instructions :
- Press the creation icon (+) ”and select“ Create a short film ”.
- Press the “Add Music” button and select “Permission to dance” from BTS. Music will be perfectly queued for up to 15 seconds without having to do anything else.
- Hold down the “Capture” button (red circle) to record your Sho video clip.
- Tap “Done” followed by “Next” to add details about the video. Be sure to include the hashtags #PermissiontoDance and #Shorts
- Hit “Download” and you are good to go!
