So, when freestyling, i usually practice in a dance studio where there is lots of mirrors, and everything seems smooth, and the creativity is endlessly flowing in.

However, i've recently noticed, that when i try to practice or freestyle without the mirror, everything gets diminished. Like, i start to repeat moves, the creativity doesnt come in, the body attitude is gone, it looks effortless and just blah :|

Any help with that? Just practice without the mirror? :S
I've tried but it seems really difficult to get in the feeling/mood/attitude to start dancing.

What gets you in the mood? The music, the feeling? or the image of your own body? lol

If the mirror is the only thing that really get's you dancing then you are way too dependent on the mirror. Try to go as long as you can without the mirror until you feel as comfortable with your dance as you are in front of a mirror. It's going to change the way you move; your body will move how it wants rather than what your eyes and mind want you to do. Get comfortable with that, because it's what you need.

It always feels repetitive and awkward at first but it sounds like you need to build your confidence in what you're doing. Imo the mirror's primary function should be cleaning up movement, get comfortable finding the way you move and then clean it up with the mirror later. I hope this helps man! Peace

This is the same exact problem I have, and I'm having trouble thinking of a solution to be honest.

What I'm going to start doing now, though, is stop using mirrors as much and just filming myself when I practice. Only after I've finished will then I review it. I hope I'll grow more confident through that way, and then critically analyse what I'm doing wrong/right afterwards. Maybe that'll help you too?

You will feel better with your dance when you stop dancing in front of the mirror and become comfortable with yourself.

Remember, this is a street dance, practice in the streets! The OG's before us weren't as privilieged to have all these dance studios. There wasn't the money, nor the respect.

Discover yourself!

lol i have the opposite problem :D
i'm used to dance without mirrors so if there is like a big studio (in my school for instance) i feel like my pops are freaking weak and all that and i become repetitive :D
I have danced once in the streets so far and it wasnt that bad.Mostly cars passed though
