Hey Guys

I'll be doing a study abroad trip to Japan starting on March 4th and I was wondering where some practice spots are and who would like to meet up and session. Specifically, I'll be in Kawagoe, Saitama, which is supposedly an hour away from Tokyo. I think there was a previous tread on spots in Japan but I wasn't able to find it so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

While we're on the topic, any chill spots in Osaka? I might be there end of July.

I guess I can help a bit with that but basically I found this site locating several events and dance studios in Japan. I'm still not too sure about actual practice spots, but I hope this helps:

http://www.dancedelight.net/frame/studio_index.html

It's separated by location and dance style.

Btw, one of the studios in Kyoto, Gucchon teaches at. So since you're in Osaka, which is pretty close, I would try to get there at least once.

I still haven't heard back from Tabo, but I'm sure he has much better information than me.

In terms of clubs there are many in the Tokyo area, depends on what your looking for. First the differences are that you have to take into consideration the need for the trains to go there and return to where ever you're staying at. And with trains stopping at around midnightish then you basically have to be at the club for the entire night until the morning train at about 5am.

Since, I haven't been to one yet, I'll speak about what I heard:

Roppongi: place known for lots of foreigners and being expensive. Also a very dangerous place in Japanese standards. I've been recommended a number of times to not go there. I might just go to find out though.

Shinjuku, Shibuya, etc.: apparently these are the places you want to go to. Sometimes they'll have events such as MC battles, bboy battles, locking battles, and popping battles. I'll be going soon so I'll update on what I see.

Again, not really very informative, but when I actually find out, then I'll update with actual names and such.

There is the Old School Night No. 10 happening in Osaka on May 5-6. Hit up some of the japanese folks for more info or I believe there is a thread on here.

Look here.

If you can survive the slums of Beverly Hills, then you can survive Roppongi. In actuality it is pretty safe, I did not feel threatened at all when I was there.

Just as a re-up:

Roppongi is not dangerous as I was told. Most of the fear locals were telling me about were just because Roppongi is a more westernize location then they were used to. So massacreking is right in that there is really nothing to worry about there. Generally speaking, Japan is very safe.

As for my experience there, I wasn't able to go to very many clubs or events, but the best sessions and spots have usually been with local college students and their clubs. Also at the subways/trains you can find crews sessioning and they have always been down to let a new person in and session with them. So recommendations would be to look up the links massacreking have on the other thread and also go explore and ask about the local college dance clubs.

Hey sopop my friend is a broad student in Japan too. He is staying in Narimasu, Tokyo, and he wants to find a dance studio to take class and practicing. Can you advice me somewhere ? He has checked out Kite & Fishboy' studio but it's a bit far for him. Thank you very much, hope you will reply soon. :D Or anybody else who know could tell me too, I really appreciate your help :D.
