haha

sorry to say this bro., but if you can "find" a locking "scene" in Chicago, you might also try hunting for Jimmy Hoffa or the pot o' gold at the end of the rainbow next...

There's not a huge scene here in LA, dude... So good luck on finding a scene out there...

HOWEVER, you could START a scene... that'd probably be the "best" thing you could do...

good luck, for real...

Well thanks much for the info dude, I'll just do my thing and maybe eventually I'll find something if I'm ever moving around or something

myself, plainwhitetom, marcus, toni (former venus flytrap) marie (from france), and jimmylock all get down on the locking tip at least weekly at chi clubs.

hit me up over PM if you wanna come dance with us. we usually hit up par lounge/evil olive on wednesdays, zentra on fridays, and me and tom do the underground/rave thing on most saturdays.

haha... How do you know I'm NOT from Chicago? Most people in LA are transplants from somewhere else...

yeah man... I live in LA...

the freakin' BIRTHPLACE of lockin'...

and, if there's barely a scene here... then I can only imagine how small the scene must be in the midwest... I mean, originally, I'm from Arlington, Texas (Dallas/Ft. Worth Area)...

there's BARELY a popping scene in Texas (although that's GRADUALLY changing), and to my knowledge, NO ONE in Texas is a DEDICATED, serious locker. Also, over-all dance culture in Texas (in general) is NIL compared to out here...

plus, seriously: how many of the chicago heads are just STRAIGHT lockers? Or do you dance other styles (primarily) and lock on the side? Not to say that there's anything wrong with dancing more than one style... I dance several myself...

BUT

I primarily consider myself a locker first, nah'msayin'? Most folks I meet from other places, esp. if they're not from So/Nor Cal, NYC/DC/Philly or like, Osaka, Seoul or Paris or Marseilles, they usually tell me that they're a popper/bboy/hip hop/house dancer, but, oh yeah, they lock on the side, too...

Also, most of those folks I meet have some serious "holes" in their locking training and technique... either that, or, it's like a.) clone of (insert name of famous locker here) or b.) very very basic locking...

so, you can understand why I'm "skeptical" when I hear about "scenes" in other places... even though I'm not "from" there...

Not sayin' it's impossible... I mean, heck, Scramblelock has got something goin' in Montreal...

Anyway, not to start any drama... just hope you can understand my thought process...

yeah i totally see where you're coming from. and only one person from the group is a locker first. locking is my secondary style next to liquid.

I think it's more how they treat Locking. They could still do it as a second style, but if they're still learning the history, learning the dance, creating their own style then I think that they could still go a long way into the scene. Then again I don't see that happening too often.

Well it looks like you might have to do some travelling...
