What's going on. I was just wondering if anyone around here would be kind enough to drop any knowledge of any kind on any skill level, be it extremely advanced or very basic, about practice methods, techniques, and the history surrounding waving. I've been very much attracted to this style as of late, but my knowledge surrounding the style is limited. I'm looking to hear anything about how to practice what, and where it could evolve to. What sorts of concepts and ideas people have done/seen over the years that have really stuck out? What do you the most visually appealing wavers do? I would really appreciate anything that can help me become better educated so that I can really take this style to the next level. Thanks.

work waving isolations for hours a day (joint by joint for the whole body, then multiple joint combinations)
learn fixed point
learn the robot isolations (inclinations, rotations)
this should get you by for about 2 years of heavy duty practicing.

140 views and 2 out of 3 replies tell me to ask someone else. I mean come the fuck on. Surely, someone can help me with something. I know there's no arguing in this thread yet, but we can sure as hell put a stop to that if it makes more people feel comfortable.

I'll be putting up my Physics waving/waves analogy. It defines what waving really is. I'd put it up now, but ive forgotten my Physics workbook. lol.

Sorry for the late reply. I do have a good tip that I would like to share with anyone that dont know it yet.
Tabo was the one who taught me this technique.
This exercise will give you the technique to clearly isolate your wrist/elbow/to shoulders.
Starting with your right arm. Using a table (or any object thats not gna be loosely moving around).
1. Get your right hand, place it on to the top of the table. (your palm should be faced down onto your table, make sure your arm is extended all the way)
2. While your hand is placed on the table (at this time your elbow should be faced down http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:AHny_l7qr88CoM:http://www.eslkidstuff.com/images/elbow.gif) slowly rotate your elbow 180 degrees. (now your elbow will be faced up ). This technique is the most important part so try to get used to how your elbow rotates.
http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:J5HRBdWcY0FBSM:http://img.blogcu.com/uploads/3dsmaxci_vucut.jpg
3. Now that you feel abit more comfortable with your elbow isolation/rotation, take your hand off of the desk. Hold it out like you were gna start a wave.
http://www.builders-in-scale.com/bis/images/o-figs/7607.jpg
Now do exactly what you did on step2 (rotating/isolating your elbow) but this time holding your hand still and flat. Do not move your hand! Pretend your still have your hand on the desk.
When you can isolate your elbow and rotate it w/out moving your shoulders or your hands, you now have full control of that elbow.
4. When you feel comfortable rotating your elbow with precise isolation, now throw that wave like your normally would. This should help smooth out your arm waves.
Hope i made sense, if i explained it shitty, then im sorry!!!
Look at this diagram below, its exactly like this but without flipping your hand, and not moving your shoulders!

yeah no prob. Tetris... Jboogz had an original tutorial out from a while ago using this tech, he claims in the video he learned it from slick dogg tho...either way, great technique.
Wherever he learned it, he re-made the video within the last day with better lighting...and it's a good tech to learn, I'm working on it myself :)

oh snap, i'm glad the clip made it somewhere where it can be evern the slightest bit useful and helpful :) Slick Dogg explained the technique to me on the phone (forever changed all my waves), and Konfusion has spent countless hours talking me through waves on AIM. I haven't met any of the guys yet btw in person :)
Enjoy the how to, pass it along to anyone you guys feel it will help! My loittle way of giving back.

Ty for that jboogz. Sry to kinda hijack thread but i thought be good if all the info in one thread didnt really want make new one to ask this lol: does anyone else think that the finger->knuckles->wrist bit (for the start of the wave u know what im talking about lol) kinda confuses the start of the wave/makes it look less clean? Like when fingers go to knuckles, there is a big movement forward, but ur fingers going backward to go back out etc. Should I just practise a hand wave, then use that to start waves? Or am I doing it wrong? TY

Try to wave your fingers/hand with out moving your arm. Isolate it so that the only thing waving back and forth is your finger/hand.
Like your hand has turned into a jelly fish.

Yeah I can do that (not toooo well havn't drilled it but yea) but wasn't sure if that was the standard practise for arm waves. So is the fingers/knuckles wrist thing for beginners and you learn hand wave like that when you get better?
Thanks

from my understanding, that IS the arm wave. at least part of it... next would be to practice isolating elbow, shoulder... and so on

Yeah, and the liquid + waving combo looks pretty sweet too. This is my first time really getting to see them in one set as opposed to being on opposite sides of the dance floor. They look good together haha

I'm not "really" a waver, but I will say this: the bit that actually helped me after I got "basic" waving isolations down (helped me learn to actually start dancing with waves and developing more concepts) was this:
"waves aren't just in your body--they're OUT THERE!"-- Chinkzilla, quoting Tabo
"get in the pool"-- Wave-o, i.e. just start a wave and then follow it... don't get caught up in technique, but just kind of get lost in wavy-world...
anyway, that, and watch clips/practice with good wavers...

I Agree With Boogie. There Is A Concept That Wave-o Taught Me And Its The Rollercoaster Concept. Just Pretend That Your On A Rollercoaster And Your Waving Motion Is The Track. It Opened Up A Whole New Set Of Experimentations For Me. Some Good Some Bad But Still Fun To Do.

damn frequencys pretty cold mane! i was diggin those waves but as im progressing in my practice im starting to notice that i repeat myself alot, especially late in my drill. I,m pretty sure its because i dont really practice with anyone, but i also think I should be comin up with more stuff than I do on my own idk?!!
