Bottin:

Be patient, even though the song is fast you can move slow. Sit there perfectly still.

1)Practice moving ONE THING AT A TIME, as soon as that one piece stops, start a new movement. Get that timing down.

2)Practice moving two things at a time now, same idea, dont start new movements before completing and stopping the first one.

3)Practice isolating smaller pieces of your body, like your wrists (wrist rolls) your arms look too "karate chop" style.

4)Dont overdue the speed control thing..I know its fun, but it looses its effect when overused. Instead save it for an accent in the music...Keep it simple for the most part.

Watch Robert Shields, as he told me, you have to COMMIT to the character, a "Robot trying to be human"....when you do that...you will blank out, lose all concept of time, keep your body limited to the movements of a robot. If you lose concept of time, you will be able to stay in character for a whole solo....60 seconds seems like a long time to be completely in Robot if you are thinking about it.

you will have the urge to start dancing faster or change style, before ever creating the visual rhythm needed to create the character. Stay in it longer.

Study Shields more than anyone else....everyone else is a copy of him. Dont be a copy of a copy, copy the original master and then put your own twist to it.

......boppin...i can do......but ur better off askin..andre....ronnie or robot prince

as for bottin...

shields is not...the only robot person......and not everyone..bites him
(shield is the bomb..at what he does)

my belief varies a lil from his

for he is more mime than dancer

i believe to make real movements look unreal....

theres a different mind set

just my opinion

thanx tetris....

wajero...like i said..those techiques are coo.....some base and foundation

but base and foundation are just that.......

but you also might want take in ur thought train..on bottin...

watch accual parts of machines or mechanisms moving...

example..i use to watch how the garage door springs moved when the door opens and shuts...

all the ...the movements from start to stop.....

springs are on hinges...just like arms and legs

then apply that knowledge into ...

urself

its ..on how you wanna appoach it...

be a mime ..or a dancer..or both...

use ur creativity

watch mimes or machines..or both.. implement what you like from both..

to me.. a machine....... in my mind ...its got more credibility than a mime...on how a machine moves.....

search it out...

bottin/boppin is a very abstract dance.

its hard to say what it is ecaxtly but heres what i use when i bot

1. Strobing
2. Bboppin hit, not a boogaloo pop
3. Animation
4. Miming objects/concepts
5. Dimestops
6. Some ticking
7. Some speed change
8. mix with other old skewl techniques such as floating, or tutting.
9. My friend Tabo (who chills with Andre regularly) has expressed to me that when you transition between all these styles effectively through body control, you can achieve Claymation.
10. Always to the beat!

Each technique 1-7 are quite vast alone. Step 8. requires more studying of vast techniques such as tutting or floating.

step 9. Is what I am trying to achieve, but will take lots and lots of time and practice.

10. is a no brainer.

This is the basix of what I do when I bot. Tabo worked with me for a long time to get a single step even remotely close to how it should look.

1-10 can always get better and theres space for much more.

Peace

and of course, tons of isolation
