I know that many people in this forum are very well known poppers with mad skills. And I also know that many of you guys had someone mentor over you to critique you, help you, encourage, teach, etc etc. So i was wondering from you guys WHO mentored over you guys for you to get to the level you are right now. I'm looking for a mentor myself and planning to go to homeland once my school is over. I feel like im in a need of one b/c i see poppers drastically get better in a short period of time b/c they dive into the community, and ogs or rreally good poppers help them out. I didnt really (or never really) go out into the community (for various personal reasons) so i feel like my skills are getting better VERY slowly. maybe even declining. any guys u recommend for me to approach and get taught by? i found out PopnTod's number, and I called him up cuz I wanted him to teach me but I found out he was moving to Portland in two weeks. :(

My mentor is Tabo aka Tabodon.

he has gone to homelands before and he teaches lots of people.

Tabo is an excellent teacher and a good friend.

U dont really need anyone to teach you anything.

All you need is passion, dedication, and homies to get down with and have fun, exchange skills etc

I did have mentors as i progressed in my Poppin tho

X, Tabo, Popn Tod, Pandora, Konfusion, Jr Boogaloo, Mr.Re to name a few, these people wernt 100% mentors as in full time teachers but friends and peers who guided me and gave me advice.

word to that. i live middle of nowhere(northwest) with a buncha dedicated poppin homies and we're just doing fine...though we did meet a couple expericned poppers and taught us a few things when they visited seattle(thank you), also some of us visited LA met up some with poppers and also helped us out( thank you) , but it still dont matter.. its all about the love for this dance.

You know wat u need to do....

drive urself to an event, underground club... (took the bus in my case) go alone...and track down sum poppers..

((sumtimes really hard to do)) , and emerse yourself in the poppin world...and this does NOT mean poppin events, battles ,ect...thers so much MORE than that! Get outa ur comfort zone, and meet ppl, dont be afraid to meet ppl u never met before, besides...all the poppers i know..are MAD chill. Thats what i did...kinda just went by myself fearing nothing..and met every1 on my own. None of my friends knew how to dance. And ther were no dancers in my entire highschool , i felt isolated. little did i know how much skill flourished in CALI!! At first...everyone seemed like a celebrity..it was crazy and hela intimidating. And now look, all these wierdo's are my friends haha, my Family. They are irreplacable.

I never had a mentor, or a "Teacher"...but i do have ALOT of people I can come to and seek advice. (Because i went out and met them). Being here in the westcoast is such a priveledge and blessing ...and i am constantly taking advantage of it. Take advantage of ur surroundings, it says ur in torrance....u know u live right down the street from legends!! So ne ways yea...my advice is, having a mentor or teacher may not be the best thing, but rather....search and attain knowledge and advice from ALLLL area's, the poppers, poplockers, funkstylers, rave poppers..haha....make alot of friends and have them give u feedback. That way ur constantly geting advice from new perspectives and new angle, not just from one individual

anyways...iuno....felt like typin a bunch....haha

Robots,

based on your name, i assumed your main dance style is robottin.

Track down Tabo if thats the case.

Talk to him yourself and make your own decision.

Tutting mani from Seattle!

oh shit i totally forgot about that guy.. he's the one that basically put a legit popping scene in Seattle, showing us foundation he got taught from LA, from the boogaloos and from his idol..TACO.
Shawn told me he quit dancing and hes dealing with his new job, which might lead him moving to Miami.

i miss that Columbian gangster ass fool. and I WANT MY HD BACK!! with all my footage and music!
