how long have u been dancing?

it is a common question people would ask...
but should we evaluate dancers by their learning curves? i see that many people evaluate a dancer by how advance he was in the past...o even myself would do so sometime

so then i thought

some are faster learners ..some are luckier to obtain more techniques than the others... some put more hard works into it....

law of diminishing also come into play... will they keep at this learning pace after a certain while?

so well i duno... i think we shouldnt evaluate dancers by their learning curves...and faster learner /luckier people dont = better dancer...

but even myself would use this measuring method sometime ...so what are ur thoughts?

That's a tough question.

In my eye's, I just usually judge a popper//dancer in the PRESENT, and what they are doing at that moment, and what have they been doin within recent times. But there are many exceptions as if they are tired or sick, ect - u kno wat I mean..

But on the other hand, I do take into account what an Individual dancer has done in the past, had they been places, been an inovater or a true individual, earning respect, ect ,ect and whatnot. In my mind i would probably be less biased. But all in all, the only time I actually JUDGE sum1 on their dancing, is if I'm watching them battle or showcase in a comp. , cyphers dont count, or just messin around obviously. Scince u never know if they are really trying or just not feelin the music..... all I do really is just accept what they're doing in the present. :]

yeh so for example...

so and so ...already been dancin for 10 years...but he still dances like this ...so hes not that good (e.g. jrock)

so and so..have been dancin for just 9 months- 1 year...but hes rippin it already (e.g. oba /ninja pop)

cus i see that people tend to compare dancers' learning pace like this

so i think rather than measuring one's progression....i would say give em TIME... cus time would tell whether one is a good dancer at the end of the day ...not how fast they progress.....in oppose to how long they have been dancin....... will a dancer still be "feeling it" at the end of the day....that should be the question...

thats why i have my utmost respects forALL the ogs who still keepin it alive untill this day
unlike fixed line...OGs techniques is undisputable.......becus the TIME have proven their works...not us the young kats

Agreed Tito, but i have to be honest, i tend to fall back on judgin poppers by how fast they progress. now taht you mention it, it does seem unfair and not really a good way to judge their skills.

The reason why i think this way is because if so and so improves this much in a short period of time, imagine how so and so will be in 10 years. but again, that is uncertain and dancers can have road blocks all the time, i know i get them.

So in conclusion your right, this is a good topic. :D Super mario yo

I think its combination of where they're at at the present and what you know they're capable of.

If someone learns really fast they probably have a great mentor and have total dedication to training. Then there are the lucky few who are simply geniuses. They are the ones who really deserve the props.

I also give lots of respect to people who have a lot of non-dancing responsibility in their lives, who don't have an opportunity to train a lot and can still tear it up.

I am an average speed learner i would assume, but I just started popping a couple months ago, I agree with itstioitstito I think it would be unfair to stamp someone just because of their dancing learning curve. I have never had a dancing background before this so this is my chance to get something under my belt!

lol good question...no they shudnt be judged by learning curve ..n ill explain why...

im a pretty faster learner id say been dancing for 10 months...im better than the less experienced ppl though that take classes every week..

im not experienced either but what separates me from them is that i know that knowledge is flavour! i try my best to obtain knowledge i talk to everyone and keep and open mind..

sometimes its a bad thing when im on the floor..i stress out too much ovr stuff im not doing..

even though i cant do all the stuff i know about yet...i know that it will eventually grow up on me

to answer ur question..no they shud not be judged by learning curve...otherwise those ppl will never get better

there was a random comp i went into awhile ago and i was havin a really bad day..off and on the dance floor...and i was up against experienced ppl..

and i lost after round 1...ppl said well uve ONLY been dancing for 10 months..then i wonder well if i always tell my self that ill never be able to beat people that have been dancing for 10 years..i try my best to keep my standards high than theirs.

if i was judged by learning curve..id never improve i dont think

Why judge anybody at all? Its just a distraction from focusing on what you're bringing to the table

All Judging is opinionated!!! Its up to you to accept their opinion or not.

Judging someone on the PRESENT is prob the best way of judging.... occasionally there are ppl who also judge by the 'Potential' of a certain person, i know this cus ive been on both ends of that type of decision.

Again i was also on both ends for the 'Learning curve' judging.

Then again, you have two ppl who has the same skill as each other, 1 of them u seen for ages and the other u just see for the 1st time.... i tend to be 'wowed' by the new person!!!

We should be judging by what kind of hush puppies they wear and what kind of derbys they got!!!!

I don't think judging by learning curve is appropriate.

Let's say someone you know who's one of the better dancers around is having an off day (Dancer A) and is battling with someone who's normally not as good but is still doing better than the first person (Dancer B). Are you going to give it to A because you know they normally do way better? 9 out 10 times, NO. A battle lost is a battle lost.

Giving it to a person who's doing well despite being a beginner doesn't cut it. If they lose the battle, they lose the battle. Let the battle decide who wins, not experience.

judgin should only be done ...by the creator...higher power...

but we all have our own opinions...which is fine......

the problem is everybody is ready to judge.....

but should be worring about themselves.....

until ur a master....... you really honestly ..dont have any criteria to judge upon...

this is art.......some are artst...and some are ......art...themselves...
