hey, i get a lot of different advice from too few videos, so i am unsure if i am even popping right
arms - hard to mess that up, but i am learning to twist and stop my hands (like poppin john recommended) instead of just bending my wrists in like i did before
chest and back - should i be popping my rib cage or my pecs? and i heard that trying to make your shoulder blades touch helps, true?
hips and legs - when i am popping my hips and legs i kind of slightly sit (bend my knees slightly), then i tighten my thighs and ass which straightens out my legs, and i try to never lock my knees
but i just want to make sure thats right...when im focusing on just hitting my hips and legs, i get this sort of jiggly sensation in my back muscles after every pop, is that normal?
also, sometimes i get the feeling im relaxing, then tensing, then relaxing again...that sounds wrong
neck - no idea...any help would be greatly appreciated
am i missing anything else?
and any other advice on how to make pops cleaner would help so much :D

well i got a good tip from dnoi , he said the chest hit is not just the pop out its in and out so when your just poppin your just up and letting it float back to normal it doesnt look as clean it should be a quick up down snap...this helped my hit alot.

alright the only easy way IS to PRACTICE.
hate to say it but its true.
work on muscle control and stretching.
for legs, work on flattening out your feet to tense your calf's
for thighs just practice flexing your legs while having them slightly bent at the knee.
you dont want to pop with your knee's (you dont want to pop them in and out of a locked position as your hit, its bad for your joints and knees are way to sensitive to injury) you want to hit with your leg muscles.
this is really difficult and very awkward (like most moves in popping are)
and it does take practice. especially if your trying to move around and hit at the same time.
this is to serious and to early for me.
keep practicing. and always remember.
popping wouldnt be what it is today if it wasnt for people ignoring others harsh criticism.
bye nigga's.

hahaha lovin the oxi-clean
i will certainly keep practicing, especially on flattening my feet, i never thought of doing that before
the pros make their hits look so easy that i thought i was doing something wrong xD
any advice on popping your neck? or is that more of an optional part of your body to use?

i read through this topic and i feel the same way bout hits, ive been dancing for bout 1 1/2 years give or take.. and i *need* to get back to basics after going to an event and seeing how hard and crisp people hit and realizing i have non-existant hits -__-
anyway, i know that most of the power comes from your upper body. however, ive been told and also been seeing diff things. in popping johns vid, its a quick snap of the chest, which is what ive been focusing on.. but the people who i session with have such crisp hits.. but its from the trapezius muscle. they told me to practice by shrugging your shoulders upwards 45 degrees in order to gradually achieve the "snap" effect from your shoulders; they are however *not* doing the cheatin way of shrugging.. its a clear hit from their upper backs.
my question is.. should we do both to have different ways of hitting or focus on one? and sorry for the wall of text... but i really wanna take my hits to the next level THANKS

yeah, i am starting to know what they mean by that snap effect, but i think they got it the wrong way around
you want your shoulders moving down, not up, when you pop
if you pop your chest and shrug your shoulders it feels really really awkward
but if you snap your shoulders down/back (using your lats/whatever that back muscle is called) and pop your chest, it gives a much cleaner snap in my opinion
a good way to practice it i am finding is to sit in a chair with arm rests on both sides, put your elbows on them and really try to move your elbows down, through the arm rests (it is impossible to actually do this)
but, if you keep trying harder and harder, you will start to feel your shoulders move back, your back flex, and even your chest pop out a little bit
then try to pop using those muscles
hope that helped

i was just trying what your buddies recommended and i think they and poppin john are both right
i think what your buds were talking about is using that top back muscle to create the resistance for the chest/lats that you don't normally have (unless your sitting in a chair like i discussed earlier)
i could be wrong as i am trying to figure this all out myself, but so far it makes sense to me!

i think i'm doing something wrong
when i raise my hands/arms above my head, it becomes much harder for me to pop my back
normally you get that when your trying to shoulder shrug...but i didn't think i was doing that at all
ill keep at it, but more advice would be great

im actually in the same position, popitgood :P ...well what ive done is just drill the chest hits by themselves, hitting on every 2, then every 1. then i add in arms, legs and anything else i wanna try (co-ordination is another factor). and after, i go ahead and dance with everything incorporated.. but tahts just me, you might have something different?
start getting used to hitting the easier angles first, then move onto the harder ones, my shoulders are starting to "snap" down slightly now
