View Full Version : Popping scene vs Bboy scene
So how come the popping scene isn't as big as the bboy scene? I heard they were around the same size during the 80's.

commercial public shows bboying as the main street dance and that "breakdancing" includes poppin and locking....any show your going to watch has bboying as a main highlighted dance style look at abdc and sytycd they advance bboys easier then any other hiphop dance style, and it alot of cases they win, the last 3 years of that show have been bboy crews the do hip hop dance....so unless your a unique case like fantastic its harder to get some shine as a popper, but not impossible, the poppin scene has grown a ton since i started so im hoping it continues on that trend....

times are changing people are now realizing that the stuff they like to watch is Popping, Here in Oregon Its like 100 bboy crews and 2 popping crew :P, but everytime we dance at a bboy jam everyone even the bboys give poppers props and most bboys dabble in popping.. because they like it. Its the big crowed pleasing Blow ups that has made bboying big. Now i think it is going back to rhythm and and timing and dancing but doing some blow ups aswell. i mean look what happind when one Popper got some shine, it opened peeps eyes to popping on a commercial level . its what everyone wants to see on tv. Thanks to all the shows and people out there pushing for popping. John chu sytycd abdc and many more thanks!

Its 2009. BBoys are whats "cool" nowadays.
Just like Randm said, bboy is the most commercialized dance style. if popping was publicized more im sure people would know of it more but for now people just consider popping as a form of breaking. I'm getting tired of sessioning in public and having someone ask me if i can breakdance..

I was actually looking for this thread. Hope it stays alive for a second.
To me poppin is just as dynamic on screen as bboying and should be showcased just as much.
