So I am 20 and have always loved dancing and been told I'm a decent dancer but nothing impressive. I wanna be able to not just keep a beat but actually do something with my dancing thats somewhat impressive so I decided to learn to pop. I found this website and started watching tutorials and stuff and i have practiced a couple hours a day but i just feel retarded when I look at myself attempting something that doesn't look like popping at all. Did anyone that pretty much taught themselves have any of these problems and and bout how long did it take before you felt actually confident with your popping? Also, i know half these responses will just say practice haha but i was hoping some people could just kinda relate to this and help motivate me..thanksss ya'll

I'm self taught. other then the just practice thing, learn how to disect concepts, technique etc from videos. I just watched the dancer and study their technique/style and see if i like it myself or flip or do whatever i want with it. And read stuff

Man i was never a natural dancer.

It was like another planet to me. Couldnt even hear the beat when i started. Keep progressing, observing, listening, and eventually it will come to you. Some people have it naturally and some dont. I never did, but i learned how to get down by practicing and watching others and being inspired by OGs and friends around me. So dont lose hope, we are all retarted lookin the first year. 8)

Like anything else, practice is the solution, and it takes time.
Also, (I dunno if you know any poppers) to hook up with poppers IRL gives you more than what just watchin' videoclips gives you. Go to clubs/jams or events, get into the community.

Keep on dancin'
Peace

Know why you are doing it, why dance in the 1st place. Your idea of it might change as you get to new levels but always think about it and know why.

I know a lot you think that you must battle, or something like that. Well battling is fun and it dose make you dance better in tournaments. But always keep these ideas in
mind, Dance is not something that there is a winner for sure ...

But youre a , because youre are an artist, as a dancer.

peace
