hey Sarah,

can't you imitate how marionettes' or puppets' movements look like?

okay, here's how you do it with the power of the internet:

I have been using the youtube, to find scarecrow, but besides that scarecrow walk and using the extended arm variations, i didn't find anything else from which i could learn more about the basic movements. :)

Celltick - That's one of my favorite marionette videos. The guy pulling the strings really brings the marionette to life - awesome skills

I haven't seen a whole lot of instructional videos on doing the puppet - which is kind of a good thing because you can now take the basic concept and develop it, add to it, and make it your own.

Whats up Liquid Toez..I used to read your posts on reflective..respect

I'm with you on not learning this style from a tutorial....

It would prolly turn out looking forced and fake...like someone else was

dictating your movements....who would want their puppet to look like

that?....

peace.....

I think it's gucchon that has a decent tutorial. The only thing it says during the whole thing (well, in english), is the one rule that any puppet-styler should know.

"Point."

Create the illusion of you being attached to strings by using different parts of your body to "point" up.

I.E. hands floppy, wrists pointed up, or forearms and below floppy, elbow pointed up, or arms floppy, shoulders pointed up.

The trick is to create points where the strings are pulling. It could be anywhere.

I think so many people forget the idea of these styles like puppet, scarecrow, toyman, sleepy style. Everybody is searching and asking for puppet style moves, but the thing is styles like these are about the feeling of the character you are imitating. To do puppet style try to feel like you are a puppet. You can do the same MOVES in different STYLES. A move eg. double walkout can be done in scarecrow style, puppet style or toyman style... Good luck with practising styles!
