When a crowd sees a REALLY good strober, they go crazy, because the illusion strobing creates seems "unreal."
Everything that poppers/wavers do is about "illusion." When we give that POP, it's an illusion that the beat is hitting "inside" our body. When we wave, we give the illusion that there quite literally is an "energy" going through our body (the more you isolate on the wave, the better it looks, as it looks like there is one source that is making the wave progress throughout your body. don't isolate enough, and you lose the illusion).
In any case, strobing is just as much an illusion as those, but 1) it's not seen as much (as in, executed extremely well), so it carries more value as something that is "new" and 2) it's just a crazy movement that is incredibly hard to master, and the human eye can almost "tell" how incredibly difficult it is to move like that, and thus attributes a high difficulty to strobing, which in turn pleases the viewer (as something that is considered extremely difficult to do would impress you more than something that is easier to do. That is not to say that popping or waving is not as impressive. As i said, strobing also has the "new" factor, as very few people can do it and pull it off correctly, as the poster above me said).
Strobing is one of those things that takes a LONG time to perfect. The weird thing is, it uses one of the most BASIC fundamentals of hip-hop dancing: dimestopping.
The problem with strobing (it's not really a problem that makes it bad, just a problem that makes it tough to pull off) is that you must dimestop at a constant speed (at least to get the illusion that salah pulls off, if you want the flat top illusion as posted in the different styles list, that's a little bit of a different story), and you must also move whatever part of you that you are moving at the same interval (or distance traveled) (again, that pertains to how salah pulls it off, not how flat top does it).
If you've been reading in between the ellipses, the point i'm trying to make is that the one thing you must work on is the dimestop, as that is what creates the strobing illusion.
Most people tend to fuck up the illusion by not dimestopping correctly. They are still moving, when in fact they should have stopped immediately, or on a dime.
I believe that strobing can be considered so pleasing to the eye as what makes it up is so incredibly simple, yet takes it to a new level with higher difficulty(almost like when you hear one of those OG beats, just a bass drum/kick drum and a clap, but a true OG rapper can take that beat and bring it to a new level).
Strobing is hard to do because it's incredibly unnatural for a human to move at such small intervals (such as when salah does it), as we are designed to be more fluid moving.
If you want the secret to becoming a good strober, you must build a solid foundation on the robot, and also, dimestopping.
When you are able to dimestop at a faster and faster pace, you produce the illusion known as strobing.
Another thing people do that messes up the illusion is not moving other body parts in sync while doing it. Most people can learn to strobe their hands against their chest (such as when Elsewhere does it), because it doesn't require many muscles, whereas if you were to put your arms straight out to your sides (wingspan style) you'd be incorporating more muscles for your body to think about as you try and produce the illusion, which is why you hardly see anybody strobing from that scarecrow position (arms straight out to sides).
Anyway, i am digressing, but the other point i'm trying to make is a simple one. When you do any style, and you are trying to sync to different moves at once, it's hard for your body to do that. Such as when trying to do the philip chbeeb wave (arms are doing two different things at once) or when you try and move your head/arm/legs at the exact same time when doing the bot, to give the illusion that all of them move at the exact same interval and stop on the same spot.
It's a general rule, the more different body parts you add, the harder the illusion is to maintain.
In any case, remember that if you want strobing like salah (full body strobing), you have to move head/legs/arms at the same interval, and same speed, all while maintaining solid dimestops. To say the least, that is incredibly difficult, and why so few people are pulling this move off to the level that salah does.
It takes time and practice to get this down. I have been strobing since i began dancing, and yet i still can only strobe my arms and head (but at least i can strobe my arms outward, instead of keeping my hands pressed to my chest), the full body strobe is still yet to come.
Anyway, try this: Dimestop at a much slower pace, but even interval (same distance moved each time by the part of your body you're trying to strobe). Keep practicing this until you are able to dimestop at such a fast rate that you are moving at the speed of a "high speed" strobelight.
Don't kid yourself though. Even if you do a "slow strobe" but still dimestop perfectly, the illusion will still be maintained, and it will still be impressive (as if you were just setting your strobe light to a slower setting, which is entirely possible). It's just the faster you are able to dimestop in a clean fashion, the better the illusion looks.
Hope this little diatribe helped you. Sorry for getting so in depth, but i'm really really into animation, especially salah's strobing style (although flat tops is great too, but i look at it as more "freaking the beat," where salah's is still impressive, and he's just "riding the beat").

Is it true that once you've mastered strobing women will orgasm when they see you dance? And men will shit themselves--literally shit themselves--with envy?

Just for reference, don't learn from Salah..
Go watch the Hamutsun serve..
Damn they can REALLY strobe..
Watch them in their BOTY performances..
