I don't believe there are any other classes other than CSLA's... if there are, they'd only be under Bradley "Shooz" Rapier... other than that I can't think of anyone worth taking classes from.

Tony Tee's studio in Granada Hills has been closed for quite sometime, last I heard he relocated to a studio in Torrance but there is another studio in West LA? Beverly Hills? somewhere that I recently saw.

Yes, unfortunately, Tony Tee Dance and Music is closed, or at least not offering any classes right now, but you can schedule a private lesson with some of his staff. As soon as I can get their contact info., I'll try to post it...
Also, Culture Shock Los Angeles Lockin' Crew offers FREE Lockin' classes @ the MacArthur Park Homeland Center in Long Beach, CA Iintersection of Anaheim St. and Gundry St.) on Monday nights from 7:30-9:00pm. They're free, fun and great for beginners. You can session afterwards at the Pop Shop in the big room too. For more info, go to www.shockla.com.
And yes, as Kaistar noted, Bradley Rapier of the Groovaloos teaches locking classes @ Debbie Reynolds dance studio in North Hollywood. Go to www.groovaloo.com or look up Debbie Reynolds dance studio on google. You can get more class info. from them.
Yes, there are limited opportunities to learn locking, but if your in the SoCal area, they exist. Also, check out www.lockerlegends.net for more locking knowledge posted up by Original Skeeter Rabbit, an OG locker...
hope this helps!

this is a bit late, since you posted this last month- but there are a few lockin' classes in LA that i've been to in the 3 weeks i've lived here..so i'm sure there are much more.
Lockadelic is teaching for Suga Pop at Evolution Dance Studio off of Lankershim in North Hollywood on mondays and i think wednesdays.
Anthony Thomas also teaches at Debbie Reynolds in North Hollywood Thursdays and Saturdays.
there is also Groovenight with the Groovaloos on thursdays at Debbie Reynolds- so you can just get down, watch people get down- or learn a few things.
all three classes are highly recommended :)

Brothers and Sisters this has got silly now!
Ok, Bono Lox: it sure has (now that you're weighing in on something that you obviously know very LITTLE about... Let me break it down for you...)
Its hard to Lean to lock in L.A!
Following your logic, it wouldn't be--unless you've got some major $$$ to be paying to drive ALL THE HELL OF THE WAY AROUND LA AND THEN PAY FOR DANCE CLASSES/PRIVATE LESSONS. That's kind of hard if you're a poor 16-18 year old kid from Long Beach who goes to Homeland everyweek...
Why dont you go see the O.G's?
You make it sound like OGs are just swinging from trees around here, just waiting for someone to ask them to give a lesson. NEWS FLASH: T'AIN'T NECESSARILY SO!
why dont you just go see Lock Master Richie Rich?
See above: Richie lives WAY THE HELL OUT IN THE VALLEY. MOST PEOPLE CAN'T AFFORD/DON'T HAVE TIME TO DRIVE ALL THE WAY OUT THERE TO SEE HIM. If you're a TOURIST who saves up a bunch of money and then goes to see him as part of your VACATION, then perhaps you have that luxury. But otherwise, it's a little harder to just "do" so at the drop of a hat. PLUS, HE DOESN'T REGULARLY TEACH. So, if I'm a 16 year old poor high school kid from Long Beach, I'm supposed to drop hella money and get a friend's car to go drive all the way out there for something that might not even HAPPEN?! Good thinkin', man!
or are all you Americans happy seeing all the Europeans and Asian gettin supa nasty of his skillz and winning comps everywhere?
Yes, obviously, that MUST be it! You've nailed it! Way to go! We've seen the light and now can be saved from our perpetual mediocrity! Europe has once again come to the salvation of the American people! Hallelujah!
Or perhaps it's the fact that locking here in LA is still a very SMALL dance... Something that groups like Culture Shock LA, and my homegirl, Jimini (winner, Homeland Lockdown Lockin' Battle; Semi-Finalist with Sunny D-lock in the locking 2v2 at FSS 2007) and a bunch of dedicated young cats from the LBC and surrounding areas that come to Homeland are trying to CHANGE... and we do it for FREE-NINETY-NINE! That's right. You don't need to save money to learn from us b/c we give out the knowledge to whoever shows up to take it...
i dont understand how catz in L.A are hard stuck for Lockin!
of course you dont! You don't LIVE here and you don't know what the SCENE is like. Your lack of understanding is quite apparent!... next!
can u see the woods for all the trees?
there are no woods, dear Stew. It's October--they've all burned down...
last year my brother SashD tells me he rolled down to homeland with richie caboose and angel.
3 American masterz.
walking west coast history encyclopedias and guess what went down inside?
Big Sash could not understand why every one justed ignored these great master Lockers to listen to some kid called boogywalk show soggy lockin.
OK, time to let you in on a little info. that Sash must not have told you since he was there on the infamous Angel-Richie-Caboose night.... And Kaistar can back me up on this, b/c he was there too that night and saw exactly the same thing...
That night that those three guys were there, they WEREN'T there to just get up, get down, get funky and you know the rest... They were there SPECIFICALLY to have it out with ANGEL because Angel had been talking some pretty serious, CRAZY shit on the internet about Sunny D-lock and some other folks. Richie was getting down a little, but he was mostly just observing and trying to have a diplomatic word with Angel (and prevent Caboose from doing something rash...) Caboose was trying to stay calm and not take Angel's head off and Angel was already teaching PUNKING to a group of people. Afterwards, Caboose and Angel had a pretty intense confrontation in the parking lot beside Homeland (I was there; I watched it go down)--it almost became a fight, but fortunately, didn't.
Things are a little more complicated than you seem to make it, homeslice. Perhaps you should find out the WHOLE story before running your fingers on a keyboard?
As for why most of the kids were interested in my "soggy" locking: I'M THERE EVERY WEEK, McFOOLIO! THEY KNOW ME! Most of those kids have never SEEN Richie or Caboose until recently when the locking contests have gotten more entrants. They probably didn't ask them BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHO THEY WERE!!!! I was even telling people, "Dude, you should go talk to Richie! You should go talk to Loose Caboose! They're OG's!" Simple fact: Richie and Caboose weren't primarily at Homeland that night for teaching/jamming purposes. I was there like I always am. Locals know me; they ask me for help. End of story.
And if anything, it's MY "SOGGY LOCKING" THAT'S BEEN SOMEWHAT INSPIRING PEOPLE TO GET INTO IT! I dunno if they think it looks "soggy", but that's ok. I understand: I know I'm not a freakin' carbon-copy of Greg or any of your named "masters" (like so many of the Asian and European lockers are) so I must be "soggy", right? Even though I've learned from Tony Tee, Don, Skeeter Rabbits (EBs and OG SKEET), Anthony Thomas, a little from Richie, Angel AND Caboose, Suga Pop, Gemini and Greg. I suck, I know... I'm sorry for trying to REVIVE the very DANCE you're complaining about being dead here in America in the only way I know how (by doing it the best I can and teaching people for free...) ... I'll quit... Sorry, Mr. Stew...
Lastly, my name is BOOGIEWALKER. Get it right. I'm no kid either. I might not be such a well-established "institution" as you are yourself, but certainly, I've put in my time. Semi-finals at this years HTWWW/FSS? Who were the judges? Sundance, Flomaster and Caboose... Sogg-tastic, eh, Bono?
before i made my bones i had to save up all year for summit, then fly for hours to meet American Lockin Masters like Richie, Caboose, Greg, Flukey, Angel, TerryB, JazzyJ, Wigglez, etc.
Awesome! Do you want a cookie? Maybe a pat on the back? Which one of them taught you the fundamental locking move of putting your foot up over your head? Oh, wait, that's a move from technical dance--my bad... Must be my American ignorance acting up again...
man do you ever wonder why NO American Locker has made any real noise in any real Lockin Battle since Flo Master!
Um, because the scene in lockin has been practically NON-EXISTENT here in SoCal until about the last 3-4 years?! (And even still, is infintessimally smaller than all the other dances...) Because all of these great "OG"'s you talk of haven't been regularly teaching here in LA since about only 2 years ago, and even then, not always completely regularly? Your ignorance of the situation is astounding....
Indeed, your ignorance is killing me...
softly, but with out a song...
no peas for you,
BW
Yo,
Chill man, don't take it as a diss. I was just surprised to see RICHIE, CABOOSE & ANGEL under one roof and hardly one person approaching -em to learn something. You're right about what was going down between Caboose & Angel that night, however, only one cat came up to RICHIE & CABOOSE and got taught some HARD CORE shit from the MASTERS, for well over an hour. I commented to my bro Stu that it was just surprising how few people actually approached them that night to learn something. Surprising for me cos I had worked so hard, saved up and travelled to get out there, when those guys are in your own neighbourhood!!
Driving all the way round LA to learn from Richie? Cuzzin sheet, I travelled over a day to get there. And will do so again when time permits. In fact, ONE DAY out of getting out of hospital with PNEUMONIA I went to meet FRANTIK, when he came out here. Point is, if you want something bad enough, you make sacrifices...
Peace

sorry, boogiewalker...i'mma have 2 agree with stu on one point....we pretty much live in locking central and take it for granted--myself included!!! SHIET!! i think i kick it with RICHIE more than everybody on this board combined, but practice with him not even HALF that time....but thats only cause we're friends....
people come from all over the world to train with these people, and we complain about driving an hour out our way?...i try my best to make it out to the OC 2 get down with CABOOSE in the clubs, but i'm sure i could try harder....
are we "lazy americans?!".....in some cases--yes.....but i think it's TRUE that we DO take the accessability of these people for granted....
i'm not here to take sides with NOBODY cause i'm friends with both yalls....i'm just stating my opinion....
respect.

sup guys
gona make this short cuz i gota get to work
i have to say i agree more with bwalker
not everyone is always accessible, and it does get very hard for a lot of us including me to get out and around to practice with ogs and whatnot
the distance is relatively far... it takes 45 minutes for me to drive out to hang out with richie... and hour to visit don or shab in santa clarita area... for me to visit greg in rancho cucamonga or og skeet in montclair can take anywhere up to an hour and a half to three hours depending on traffic... its definitely a love but finding the time and the money can be extremely difficult!
i set aside my monday nights specifically so i can practice at carbon... maybe homeland sometimes, but homeland for me is a solid 80 miles, which is something like 120km? that's already a half of tank of gas roundtrip EASILY, which ends up being around $20 for that half a tank of gas! it doesnt sound like much but it adds up hella quick.
also understand that the kids at homeland probably only have the internet and the lockers at homeland available. its been a blessing that og coco shows up and teaches for free there, but those kids aren't gonna know who the ogs are but rather the popular dancers right now like Hilty & Bosch, GoGo Bros, etc or the dancers around constantly around them like bwalker and tiff from culture shock la. there are no ogs that show up for locking on a regular basis to spread their knowledge... caboose only came that one time to beat the snot out of angel for talkin garbage... richie only came to see it... you see the problem here? LOL
i dont think for a lot of us its so much "lazy" as is "busy"... shit is always happening here, and schedules often dont match up... ive always been meaning over the last year and a half! to finally have lunch with og skeet but my schedule has never permit me the time and syncro between his schedule and mine to do it.
anyways gota run. peace!

i think its good that you guys are getting involved with the youth
but y'all have to take that extra initiative and bridge the gap between the OGs and the new generations....
gotta take that leadership role and be the funk ambassadors
i can see both stu and bwalker have valid points...
fact of the matter, when i went to LA this summer lots of people would ask how we got in touch with all these OGs and simply put, we just called them up!!!!
For the most part a lot of these OGs are more than happy to pass things on to the new generations!!!!
Even though I am an outsider and dont know how things are all year round, I still worked very very hard to save up and travel around....its difficult but still very possible

sorry kev...no matter how u word it, we got people travelin a lil bit farther than 180km to learn from ogs....and THEY got shiet to do too!!! if they can hook up with these living legends, how is it that we all say "we don't know how to get a hold of them?" internet is a helluva helpful tool!!!
i, personally, haven't gone out my way to meet with any of them simply because dancing isn't my #1 priority right now...is that an excuse?...maybe...but for all you guys sayin that dancing IS your #1 priority, why haven't YOU taken the initiative?
if you got the love deep down in your heart, something like distance, time or money is just an obstacle, not a straight up wall you can't pass....
culture shock is doin a HELLUVA job spreadin the culture and knowledge...so props to them and those LIKE them!!! so i'm not here knockin wut they doin....wut i AM sayin is that all yall that REALLY love this dance, take advantage of the OGs time while they still GOT time 2 take advantage of!!!! we already lost one!!

dont forget Scooby Doo RIP and EB SKeet RIP
dont forget Scooby Doo RIP and EB SKeet RIP
which is even MORE of a reason NOT to sleep on these guys!!!
keep this in mind guys...you're not necessarily goin to these people for the moves.....cause if THAT'S the case, i'm sure there's LOADS of footage u can find on youtube......
you wanna learn where the moves come from....these people LIVED the funk...so there's really no way to duplicate that feeling without goin to the people feelin it....it's THEIR experiences that really gave birth to the moves....although DON CAMPBELL gets the props for the dance (deservedly and without a doubt), there are other people that added their own ingredients to the funk gumbo....and when i meet these people, i plan on diggin their brains like SYLAR till i find what makes them tick!!!hahaha.
IN MY OPINION, when u UNDERSTAND where the funk comes from and what the funk does...i think THAT'S when you've reached the HALFWAY point in your locking career...the other half is actually doin it.

Ok, guys... let me eat some proverbial crow...
Sorry Flexy... I got carried away. I think both you and Bee are right: in general, Americans have taken locking for granted. They don't search out the OGs... You're right. I would much rather someone learn locking from them than from me, but if I'm the only available/most convenient/most financially expedient option, then I'd rather they learn than not learn... besides, I have learned from some of the OGs, I can at least pass on a very small amount of knowledge...
But yeah, LA is a difficult place to live, esp. depending on your schedules and finances. People like Kaistar are rather impressive--I swear he must live out of his car, based on the number of places I see him in LA... Not impossible but difficult...
Anyway, a big heaping plate of peas to the FlexyStudio... Peas and love...
let's get down sometime... I think the number of younger lockers at Homeland will be somewhat inspiring... at least, it's growing...
I'm out...
