Thumbs up Popping advice & help! Get your practice videos critiqued! Post your practice video!

If you have a clip, and you don't mind hearing constructive criticism, drop your clip in this thread.

I will be honest and see what areas can be helped, and if I can't, I'm sure others on the board will. This way, cats will expect to hear good or bad things about their clip.

Peace and much Respect

Sup? This was something I did about 3 or 4 months ago maybe. It starts out strobing then goes to robot. I was just playing around with it at practice. Think I went to the song pretty well, but you'll have to turn up the sound to hear it. I don't know, it's straight I guess.

Default HEllo I am new here

Hello I am new on this forum but I was reading lots of your articles and topics so I decided to post my video here. I want to say sorry about the industrial music that I am sure you won't like as soon I will have my camera back (thats tomorrow) I will try to do something to grandmaster or ice cube.
I know my style is kind a slopy and there are some crazy or weird things but all I lernd is from net. I never seen popper LIVE and the nearest place that offers me people that know anything about popping is 120 km (i know is nothing for you peps in USA but i live in Poland and the money and time i need to get there is hmmm..)
I have seen lots of your stuff and it's great so i will be greatful for every advice and critic.
Thanks

let me start off by saying its probably best to get criticism from a recent practice clip of some sort. its hard to judge when you're looking at multiple footage from different dates and times.

but from what ive seen, i would say work on more lower body movement; dance more, there seems to be a lot of scenes where you're just standing in one place using a lot of upper body motion but nothing else going down with your legs. you have a lot of good ideas, now dance with it... i might add i did like those finger tuts.

No problem dawgy, I'm downloading it right now....

BRB

Your rolls are getting looser and cleaner, nice.

Hard to tell without sound, do you have a mic?

Your arms stay in the same position too much, you can add more variety there.

YOU TOOK THE WAVE TO THE GROUND!!!

haha props, at about the 1 36 mark. More of that homie. Not just in waves, follow through on your moves, like pitcher does, or a bball shooter, follow it all the way through.

Work on you isolation. But already, your bot is improving.

I like when you feel the groove and start to move with it, like at 3 03 to 3 09, nice. Nice spin afterwards.

The wave at 4 08, again, follow through, you did not go down as far as you could of, use your legs and feet more in your waves.

I see a gang of improvements than the last clips a while back, nice bro.

Hook up a mic, so the next clip has music. Any type of music, so I can see your "dance" as well, not just your "technical" skill.

props dawgy

Peace and much Respect

Your right, haha, it wasn't the speakers, it opened in quicktime, but in media player the sound was fine...

yeah dawg, follow through more, your waves will go deeper too.

Don't worry about the sync, even if it was synced your metronome goes off to the tempo of the song. I can tell by giving you a two count in retrospects to the songs count. I can tell you have practiced the one twos we talked about.

Check this out...

Picture yourself dancing. Picture yourself poppin, how you want to be. Picture yourself getting down how you really want to, forget what you consider your limitations. Picture yourself killin the beat, cracking the one, hitting the two, BAM BAM BAM.

If you can visualize that in your mind, its just a matter of your mind now training your muscles how to do it. But you have to visualize it first, completely, so the mind can THOROUGHLY tell the body, in time through practice, how to accomplish that visualization.

TRY THIS...

Think of a move you want to do, but don't have it down yet.

Now, close your eyes, and see yourself doing it. Not how you can do it now, but how you want to be able to do it. As clean as you can imagine, not limits other than doing things physically impossible of coarse, hehe.

Then open yours, and look at the area you dance, the place you usually practice, and with your eyes open, imagine you doing that move, right there.

Try hard to visualize that.

Now after you do this a couple of times, get up, walk over, and try to do what you visualized. See, now, your mind has a much clearer way of telling your body how to do it. This image can help in many ways, like your confidence of getting it down. Sure, its not gonna happen in a couple of moves, but you keep doing that, and you will see, it will come faster than normal. Your muscles still have to train to move the way you want, and coordination is still a big factor, but you increase the synapses to these areas, which can promote faster learning of what your trying to do.

Its like being in complete focus. Sooner than later, you can visualize different moves to help you create new things all the time.

If you want to see what your full potential is, you will have to understand that the mental part of the game is just as important as the physical. These "exercises" in your dance practice create more of a relationship with your mind and body. For a Popper, Locker, Bboy/Bgirl, I think its important to feel off your imagination, this is one way of doing it, making something you imagine materialize to your dance.

That is exactly what I meant, your "count". A metronome is like your musical pulse. Its the constant beat usually you find in relations to the songs basic count. 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4. That is two 4 counts, which can also be one 8 count, or can also be four 2 counts. You can dissect the count according how you want to, as long as you keep the basic counts parrallel to the music.

So the metronome is your pulse. When your pulse beats to the beat of the songs pulse, your synced up.

Hahah. It really does work, I have a gang of waves created this way. The thing is, it all comes down to this....

How good do you want to be?

Yes, you can visualize without music externally playing, what I do, haha, is make sound effects while I do it, to create a sound for me to ride on. Sometimes, that give just enough noise to make you think of a move. Also, you can creat a beat in your mind, and dance to it, mimicking the bass and clap with making sounds. You can also do it in complete silence, it just makes an easier transition when you do it to music.

Thinking too much on your movements while your dancing might get in the way of you letting loose. Try not to thing too hard, but let the music guide you. Focus on the beat, not your moves, and you moves will eventually come out.

Fo sho, anytime, glad to help, anyone that comes to Homeland too I help out in person, this coming Monday night we are gonna have a waving clinic, hehe.

Peace and much Respect
