Well David. You shouldn't focus on your leg movement until you're not dancing to the beat. What you should do in my opinion is practice the fresno over and over again, cause it will help you with both of your problems. Another thing you can try is to simply hit only with your legs to the beat. If you want further information you can find great stuff in the tutorial section of the forum and there are some amazing tutorials on youtube from Pete and Otis Funkmeyer for learning the basics.

One year is nothing. You're still a baby as far as dance goes. You'll get it if you keep practicing, don't worry about it.

I wrote a second reply post in there that deals with listening. I just started doing it today and it may help. Less aiming your hit at the beginning of the kick or snare/clap and true to fill the space between the kick/hihat or snare/hihat with a dimestop/hit ( they are very similar).

Also leg wise, my teacher has me just walking. Try to hit the ground on the bass and snare/clap. Walk around real loose. No hitting. Also, I would stop trying to do waves, tuts etc if you are, unless thats what you wnat to do exclusively. Im gonna add them later... I started off concentrating on them and it was kind of hindering. Ofcourse, when you do them and dime stop and hittig right after it will proabably buiild your control.

Another thing, not sure what leg movements you are learning. but i would definitely practice the 4 point hip isolation (boog roll) and also 4point shoulder isos. it will make you sexier lol. but in seriousness, it will add sway and bounce to your walk. without the hips its like trying to hit a baseball with just your forearm. you need your whole body in to the walk...

Also when you count, which you should always try to tlll you get it in your, go 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. Account for the hihat. Its 4/4 time. boom clap can be anything. It can 6/8 and we wouldnt know. also the same if you use your mouth to create sound efx as a guide always go boob shh clap shh. Atleast its working for me. Tell me if it helps. So instead of thinking of a hit as boom or a clap.... it is booooomshh and claaapshh.

tell me if this helps because if it doesnt, im going back to the drawing board.
