Default My look on the strutters room!

i went to my uncles house to make this video of him, because i been under hes training for so many years, shit my first crew i ever join was medea sirkas, i knew that poptart had more to show to this community. to me hes the last strongest strutter i seen get down with are generation of dancers. this video reminds me of how funky days where when he was dancing, and i wish i could be like that now... Please subscribe and support my uncle and watch the realness of this dance... since i was a kid ive always been bay bound, and i learned my history by these OG's who would tell me whats what...i learned this as a street dancer, in are hoods out here in the bay. crazy thing is, before that, when i was young instead of saying to other people "HEY do you POP" we would say "HEy can you strutt?"
and not even know why i would say that LOL... history is a very crazy thing...

support and subscribe to POPtarts account...
hope yall enjoy this clip as much as i enjoyed making it...

HOLLA!

THANKS PHARSIDE for spreading the love!!

It's the truth, we called this dance STRUTTING before POPPING. One can accept it or not, doesn't change history.

What POP TART brings to the table is a PURENESS of the dance. Just look at how CLEAN his moves are. What he shows you on Strutting applies to all kinds of dance. TAKE YOUR TIME! DO IT RIGHT!! You ain't out to put out fires and sh*t so what's the rush????

Glad you found the house bro!! I was telling Bryce you were close...all you had to do was listen out for the LOUD ASS FUNK!!!! (I swear his neighbors must not get any sleep hahahaa!!) =)

San Jose was definitely reppin STRUTTING for the longest time. Personally, I thank you kats for doing that. That's why I enjoy watching the illusion style popping Playboys and other OG's from San Jose do. They kept it real like that. If anyone thought it was weak, that's just jealousy.

I grew up in the CITY (San Fran) strutting with the vatos, Samoans, blacks, etc. Was hardcore active from 1978 when I was a junior in high school. AT THE TIME it was ALREADY OLD.

I don't see any HISTORY getting twisted here.

The only twisting comes when folks be saying NOBODY was POPPING back then. That all we were doing was LOCKING!! Now THAT MAY HAVE BEEN POOR LA's problem, but it sure as f*** wasn't so in the BAY!!

We was HITTING, THAT was our POPPING. We may not have been saying "POP POP POP!!!" as we were throwing our moves. It was more like "BLAM BLAM KAPOW BLAM!!!" ...AND, yes, we were LOCKING, too.

If you were at CALIFORNIA HALL in SF back in the day, you'd see a MESS of Dance Groups wearing their jackets. It looked like the opening scene of the movie The WARRIORS. I'm still talking about the 70's.

Strutting was the dance of the Bay back in the day. If you were robotting, waving, hitting, stepping, etc. you were called a STRUTTER. That's just how it was.

I'm hoping PLAYBOYS can get a DVD out too. Bunch of great OG San Jose kats still around getting down. Don't let it be a lost art.

What POP TART is doing is a blessing for ALL OF US STRUTTERS that are left. He ain't trying to take anything away from anyone. It's all to BUILD!! We need to work together and keep this dance alive for future generations.

30+ years later and it's still going on. Am I the only one appreciating the miracle in that??

hey doclock, just wondering what do u mean by this?

i dont kno if u mean LA has a problem of saying that the Bay didn't pop back in the day, or had the problem of not popping, but instead were locking. just want some clarification if that is okay with u. i mean that with the upmost respect!

i dont kno much about the bay history and the whole history and scene that happened in san fran and san jose... nor the relationship the different og's from different bay area holds with each other. however i think LA kind of gets a bad wrap nowadays. imho i think LA contributed an extreme amount to the popping scene... today and back in the day. breakin n enterin says enough... plus LA spawned popntaco, boppin andre, boogaloo shrimp... these guys are beasts and paved way for the LA popping scene, let alone the scene in general.

and that video of pop tart is FIRE. he is one of those guys thats untouchable. and money b, ur honestly one of my favorites out there. extremely original... i keep hearing lots of good stuff about u from ppl who've seen u in person. thx for the inspiration!

Any of you, who live in California and can get the best knowledge about any streetdance style first hand, be thankful for it. Be thankful for the fact, that you can take almost at any time, any kind of class in any of the popping styles from the best in the world.

I would like to scream sometimes when i think about the fact that we don't know shit about popping in these post communist countries. That i could take a class for a couple of bucks from any teacher new-school/OG, was i living in San-Fransisco/LA, but instead, the only way for to develop myself is read this forum all day long, beg for advices and knowledge, and watch videos on youtube over and over again, trying to figure out how the hell did they do that move.

Be thankful.

This is true. It seems like a few years back, when people were still trying to divide the lineage of the dance, strutting was dismissed. It was when people where having a crises of conscious upon finding out that Sam didn't event it. Now I definitely ain't trying to spark up the old argument, but what I saw when I lurked here or read comments on YouTube was a lot of disses towards struttin. People said it was weak or boring and had nothing to do with what Sam was doing.

Basically the bay area history was really just coming to light and the initial reaction was to try to minimize it.

By they, most cats on the east bay wasn't struttin or doin fillmore. Struttin was kind of an umbrella term back then...or boogaloo, but the style was mostly done on the other side of water. I only saw it when I got on BART

Pop Tart's shit is clean. Especially on the clips where he's fusing struttin and bottin and fillmore...which I guess is what struttin is.

Playboyz got some old youtube clips where they talking about the difference between the way San Jo do fillmore and San Fran.

Awww Pauly...please, let's look at the whole quote not just part of it....

"The only twisting comes when folks be saying NOBODY was POPPING back then. That all we were doing was LOCKING!! Now THAT MAY HAVE BEEN POOR LA's problem, but it sure as f*** wasn't so in the BAY!! "

I ain't even dissing on LA in any way shape or form. I love LA, I'm down there in So Cal a lot. This ain't a North vs South agenda. I'm not gonna make it about that.

As you can see by ALL the different posts regarding this video, mofos in the BAY can't even get along with each other as it is!!

No, I was referring to the "NOBODY was DOING other than..." logic that was perpetuated for too long. If anyone questioned this, they were shunned upon and made to shut the f*** up.

"Poor" LA was meant to have my sympathy if the above statements were even remotely "true."

In fact, I DON'T even BELIEVE that LA was only doing LOCKING then either.

There were kats coming from the BAY (Heckle and Jeckle - SAMOANS - for EXAMPLE because they weren't the ONLY ones either) bringing bay flava down to that scene. LA had their own local GREATS already, some of which you mentioned!! I wouldn't DREAM to take anything away from that!!! That's just blasphemy!!

No, my efforts are not to put down on ANY style either. This is STREET DANCE!! The most positive FORCE that has EVER come out of the STREETS. It has literally saved LIVES!!

The TRUTH is THERE IS NOT JUST ONE!!!

It's time ALL the stories are told. ALL the different versions. HOPE more people will listen and learn. May not like everything that is said but only too important that it IS said.

Folks ain't getting any younger and soon the tales won't be left to hear.

Hope that's clear. Thank you.

ahhh for sure. i just asked cuz i was unsure what u meant by that. i know ur a positive guy so i know u wouldnt try and make it into that sort of agenda. thx for explaining!

its just cuz lots of ppl bein saying, LA is biased, LA is narrow-minded, LA poppers are prideful and full of drama, only worried about politics, etc etc. so i thought u MIGHT have bein saying something upon that light. again, thx for explaining.

anyways, this has nothing to do with the post or video, so just dont mind me. =P

back to the video of poptart.... daaaaamn. truely a legend. a hidden gem of san fran! (i thought he was from oakland)
