Hey whats up everybody, im relatively new to the funk styles scene, and while browsing through the forums, i have caught a feel and it seems to me that mostly every big name i have heard of isn't as good as i have thought. Every big name popper has a problem, either with their originality, their technique, their attitude, etc.
So my question to you guys is, which popper is actually as good as their hype? For example, when i first started out, i admired and looked up to the EBs, and regarded them as some of the best, but on the forums, it seems like not alot of people have as much respect for them. Than, there are problems with Salah, J Smooth, etc., and other poppers who i look up to. And everyday, it seems like the history of who invented what, what styles originated from where, is all anybody wants to talk about. So my other question to you guys would be, not bringing up the past, but which poppers NOW are advancing and making break throughs in the scene? |

Of course in anything, there are always people better than the big names, but as someone who doesnt know much, when doing research, only the big names pop up, but as i stated before, it seems like just because you are a big name, there is automatically a problem with you, ie "trendy". What my question was is, out of these big name poppers, which one(s) of them live up to their hype?

deuce, are you relatively new to the scene? I remember being really hungry when I first get into the popping community several years back. When I found wiggles forum, I expected a lot of good information and knowledge being passed around daily. Nope. Tons of drama all over the place. Maybe this is why you think those guys in your list don't live up to the hype. It's all a result of the drama. I've seen them and they are dope as hell.

I kind of don't understand your problem. Ever dancer has a "flaw" or a weakness. I usually don't make a whole lot of hay over what's WRONG with someone who is, in general, dope in my eyes. I acknowledge their weaknesses but then I focus on what they're amazing at...
Would you care to elaborate on what some of the flaws or problems are with specific poppers so we can understand the root of your disappointment? Perhaps we can point out some strengths you aren't aware of simply because you're new to the scene?... peas, BW

I think its a result of maybe always comparing them to their best ever clip/time you've seen them and if its not as good thinking they 'fell off'.
Its not always possible to do better htan you did last time. If you dont look at it in such a comparative way but more in general - most hyped dancers Generally have more dope shit than bad. Its all subjective though - different strokes etc If no-name dnacers get out mroe and more then they too will get hyped and have more expectations put on em. |

The way I see it is there are TOO many out there now gaining reps. Name throwing is such a big thing on these sites, I don't even know some of the names mentioned that I read on these posts.
Lots of hype seems to come from friends backing each other up or even SELF MADE. I go by what I see and enjoy. Don't trip on the hype.

Just do what you like and enjoy watching who's styles you like. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks or says. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one! |

dont use the internet as your main source of info. its good, but if you fall into it it will corrupt you..
go to jams and sessions, and learn that way. then you yourself could be the judge of who is the best. |

dun dun dun...
but i agree wit fantastic. hit the event up, make your own conclusions on whether he looks dope or not... if u set a height requirment for someone to jump to please you, they may come up short if you ask them to jump 15 feet vertically.... |

Jr boogaloo i think lives up to his name if not very under rated.
Walid Lives up to his hype if he even has any. Bruce from france Yuzaru very underated should get more hype I just dont like when people say someone is amazing just cause everyone else says it. I always watch people win contests based on who they are based on popularity or if they have friends judging. Which makes no sense to me. I hardly ever see the underrated Unknown guy get as much props as they should. |

I think Aka kin is underrated in Korea, or at least I don't see enough of him competing.
I believe Gucchon lives up to his hype too. |
