what is your opinion on..lets say i see a video of a guy getting down, and its very funky, it looks like basic poppin, nothin too out of the ordinary or stylish, and i copy what he does in the vid, perfectly, to get myself used to hitting in different positions, doin leg movements, but only for practice purpose..never doin the "routine" in front of a crowd or at a battle...wutchu think

well im also an amatuer also copyin from vids just leanin 2 myself u know. but im like suckin like kickass lol even robot is quite hard 4 me

why not. It's one of the main ways how people learn - by imitating.
But keep in mind the following, i.e learning new techniques already done by others vs. presenting others' techniques as your own: the former is appreciated for personal progress (great dancers say: learn the basics, learn the technique), the latter is frowned upon (all dancers say: biter, copycat) and everyone is rather adviced to apply the learned technique differently for the progress of the dance (great dancers say: flip it, make it your own). /thread NRG |

Learning from imitation is nothing to look down upon unless you only copy the move and not learn the technique behind the move. Then you're just a bitin' muhfugga.
