Coquitlam City Hip-Hop Dance Battle

Street dancers are ready to show off their skillful moves – and you can potentially join them on the downtown stage for Culture Days.

Do you have the moves that can step up, stomp the yard and throw it to wow a crowd?

Coquitlam residents of all ages can have that chance as the city prepares to host its Culture Days program starting this weekend.

A street dance battle is planned on the stage of the TD Community Plaza in Town Center Park – in an effort to follow current COVID-19 health and safety protocols – with six internationally renowned artists aiming to bring energy, tenacity and enthusiasm.

The theme of this year’s event “Re:Imagine” aims to encourage positivity and tangible change in these difficult times.

After battling in several different dances, the group will engage the audience by teaching them the fundamental moves of hip-hop, ‘litefeet’ and ‘tutting’ – a dance that requires intricate movements of the hands, arms and fingers. .

Performers include:

  • Natasha Gorrie and Hannah Henney
    • Diamonds in the Rough Team Members (Vancouver)

  • Kevin ‘Shazam’ Li
  • Vance Driver
  • Anouar Ali
  • Rajan ‘Illest’ Sandhu

The free program is scheduled for Sunday (September 26) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, with DJ Ice B on the decks.
