CEDAR RAPIDS – This Saturday, 350 dancers representing 30 Iowa schools and studios will compete in the Dance Challenge at Jefferson High School’s gymnasium. Doors open at 7 a.m. and start of the competition at 8 a.m.
The Dance Challenge is a new business owned and operated by Jenny Thielman of Cedar Rapids. This is a traveling dance competition in partnership with schools that are trying to raise funds for their teams. Thieman expects more than 1,000 people to attend Saturday’s competition and the Jefferson Dance Team is expected to raise more than $ 2,000 for their program, a program that has struggled to raise funds in the pass. Dancers on the Jefferson Dance Team are often asked to pay out of pocket for uniforms and other team fees.
A check will be handed over at the prize giving ceremony on Saturday at the end of the competition, around 6.30 p.m.
The Dance Challenge will also host competitions in Spencer, Fort Dodge and again in Cedar Rapids at DoubleTree in February, in support of the Kirkwood dance team.
