The 2021 Grammys took place yesterday with four women sweeping across the four major categories (Record, Song & Album of the Year, plus Best New Artist). The socially distanced ceremony was a bit easier to watch this year without forced collaborations and a focus on the nominated artists. Billie Eilish took home record of the year for the second year in a row for “Everything I Wanted”, while HER took song of the year for “I Can’t Breathe” and Taylor Swift. Folklore won album of the year.
While a dance artist was among the best new artist, Kaytranada, he would lose to Megan Thee Stallion. In the best dance song and album of the year announced during the pre-show, her fortunes were a little different. Kaytranada’s “10%” with Kali Uchis won the award for best dance recording on Disclosure, Jayda G, Flume & Toro Y Moi and Sidepiece.
He then won the prize for best dance / electronic album, BUBBA also conquered Disclosure, Madeon, Baauer and Arca. He is the first black artist to do so. Imanbek took home the award for best, sometimes a little weird, remixed recording for his shattering SAINt JHN remix “Roses”.
Other notable wins came from Thundercat, Anderson .Paak, Nas and Fiona Apple. Beyoncé set the record for most Grammy wins for a woman at 28.
